I’m Back!

IMG_6193I realize I haven’t been around much lately.  I don’t have a great excuse.  Life just happened.  I finished the classes for my MBA in Paris.  I traveled to the USA for the first time in a year and visited family and friends.  I returned to Paris.  Tomorrow, I start an internship at an international design agency in Paris.  I’m excited and nervous and happy to be back.

I had an incredible time when I was back in the US.  I spent Christmas in Chicago with my family and then went to California.  San Francisco is my other home.  I lived there for eight years and I have an amazing group of friends there.  I love the sun, the food and the laid back culture.  Here is a glimpse into my trip:

I went out for real Mexican food (finally!) and drank wine in glasses as big as my head.IMG_6124

I went to my all time favorite deep dish pizza place in Chicago.  It’s called Lou Malnati’s and it’s as good as I remember.IMG_6134

I celebrated Christmas Eve with my oldest friend whom I’ve know for twenty-seven years.  I then went to my mom’s house for Christmas and cooked everyone a big family meal.IMG_6137

I spent some time hanging out with Santa.IMG_6146

I was so excited to cook in real kitchens again and have space to entertain!  For Christmas Eve we cooked a delicious meal that was definitely not kid approved, but it sure was adult approved.  We made Ottolenghi’s stuffed zucchini but used wild rice instead.IMG_6147

We made roast cauliflower with turmeric and paprika, and ground beef koobideh kebabs.IMG_6179

This is a painting that my grandfather painted.  It now hangs in my mother’s house and it’s one of my favorites.IMG_6192

After the freezing Chicago weather, the California sunshine was blissful.  I went wine tasting with my aunt and uncle in the east bay.IMG_6191

I forgot how beautiful it is out there!

One of my best friends cooked me an amazing welcome home meal.  Six of my closest girlfriends came and the boyfriend of the hostess.  The boyfriend didn’t last long.  Way too much estrogen!  We laughed until we cried and then laughed some more.IMG_6237

I hung out with my favorite kitty.IMG_6241

And puppy.IMG_6271

I took the ferry into San Francisco and went for a food crawl in the ferry building with my aunt.IMG_6285

I had a Korean BBQ beef taco.IMG_6281

Hamachi crudo that is heaven on a plate.IMG_6283

Oysters from Hog Island.IMG_6284

Clam chowder from Hog Island.  The best I’ve ever had.  Each bowl is cooked individually and served as soon as the clams open.  The result is rich and incredibly fresh.IMG_6301

I went wine tasting again.  This time in Sonoma.IMG_6302

Gorgeous, isn’t it?  They desperately need rain but I have to say I really enjoyed the sunshine!IMG_6321

We finished the day with dinner at one of my favorite restaurants: Barn Diva in Healdsburg.  They make these goat cheese croquettes with lavender honey that are out of this world.IMG_6319The trip was better than I ever imagined and I am so happy I went.  I had such an amazing time.  Thank you to all my friends who made it so special!  Until next time, Cali.

    • Hi Ali. I’m not really sure since this is very different from what I’ve done. I think a lot of the universities and language schools offer classes. Check out the Sorbonne and Alliance Francaise. Good luck!

  1. France and California, my fave two places. can’t wait to visit again San Francisco, you’re so right about sitting around a huge table with friends. . small tip… when you are facing the sun your camera shuts down the amount of light coming in, result – we can’t see your face very well on the Golden Gate photo, Just use a flash ( don’t know if I phone has one ) to balance it out, et voilà !
