Vanessa Larson

My name is Vanessa Larson, and I recently made a life-changing decision to quit my job, move to Paris, and go back to school for my MBA.  I arrived in Paris on January 2nd with a one-way ticket, an apartment booked for the first month, and plans to immediately stuff myself with as much bread and cheese as possible.  I followed a dream that I barely dared to dream and moved half way around the world.

My daily life in Paris consists of trying to not fail out of school, attempting to learn French and stumbling through a myriad of cultural and linguistic challenges.  Some days I’m more successful than others.  The experience has been incredibly challenging and rewarding and I wouldn’t change it for the world.  After all, I get to eat croissants and pain au chocolat everyday!

My passion when I am not studying, working, or wandering the beautiful streets of Paris, is good food and cooking.  Obsession really wouldn’t be too strong of a word to describe how I feel about food.  You know the way that other people unwind from their day by going to the gym or watching TV?  I cook.  I cook healthy, fresh meals that taste delicious.  Plus eating healthy at home allows me to offset all that bread, cheese and croissants!

In my former life, I was a buyer for a home décor catalog.  I have a deep love for fashion and design but I think it’s difficult to find inspiration.  The fashion magazines are gorgeous, over-the-top and completely unwearable.  Design is often either very traditional or very modern.  I want to see images of clothes I want to wear, styled in a way that I want to wear them.  I want to see homes that are so inspiring that I want to live in them.

I decided to create a space that shows my style, a space where I can collect dreams.  This blog is a place where I can share my love of food, design and fashion, and my stories about expat life in Paris.  This blog is my creative vision.  It’s what I love and what inspires me.  My hope is that it inspires you too.

  1. I read your article on the Everygirl site. Congratulations on undertaking this big transition! I did the exact same thing about a year and half ago — packed my bags and went to Italy to pursue a MBA. It was the most exciting and terrifying thing I’ve ever done, but I don’t regret it at all! Looking forward to following your journey!

  2. I just found your blog on “I’m an Everygirl” and I was so excited when I read your story!! I love it and I can’t wait to read your blog and follow your story! I would love to do something similar!
